Frequently asked questions

Any child between the ages of 3-18 can register for youth soccer! You can download a copy of the Team Grouping Age Chart here.

what supPlies / EQUIPMENT does my child need?

Your child needs to purchase a set of shin-guards and soccer shoes - both of which are available at any sporting goods store. A soccer ball is optional, but it’s always a good idea for your child to own his/her own so they can practice at home.

The cost of your uniform is already included in your registration fee. MYSA will provide uniforms for all registered children prior to the first game of the season. Typically, uniforms are given to the team’s coach who will then distribute them amongst the players.

What size soccer ball does my child need?

U4-U8 Age Groups use a Size #3 Ball
U9-U12 Age Groups use a Size #4 Ball
U13+ Age Groups use a Size #5 Ball

My child has never played soccer, does that matter?

Absolutely not! MYSA accepts players of all types -- whether it be a first-time soccer player or a child that has been playing for years. For the more advanced players, we offer competitive play with our Dynamo Jr.'s program.

How often do teams practice? and where is practice?

Each soccer teams practice location, date, and times are selected by the teams coach. Some teams practice only once a week, but most will have practice two times during the week.

where are the soccer games held?

Soccer games are held at the De Leon Soccer Complex in McAllen -- located across from the Walmart on the corner of Nolana & 29th St. For a map with directions, you can visit our Field Locations page.

how long does a season last?

Our Fall soccer season takes place from September through November, and our Spring soccer season lasts from February until May.

how is my childs team selected?

We do our best to select a team that practices at a park close to your home. We also try to "zone" most children on that team so they are all from the same school or surrounding area.
